Each year is complaints filed in that year’s first 3 years on the road, divided by however many of those years have passed. A model year younger than 3 years is too early to compare, so it is left out of the years named as having the fewest or the most complaints. Recalls are a separate count. The numbers are for the US-market BMW i7. How we count.

Known issues for this generation

NHTSA campaign 25V-395 recalls certain 2023–2024 BMW i7 vehicles (with i4, iX, and i5 on the same Part 573 filing) because electric-drive motor software may erroneously detect a double-isolation condition and shut down the high-voltage system about 15–20 seconds after a red warning message, causing loss of propulsion. Power-assisted steering and braking remain available per the report. The software remedy is free at dealers and also via over-the-air update. The filing lists about 5,505 potentially involved i7 vehicles within a multi-model total of about 71,286 units. Separately, integrated-brake campaigns 24V-104 and follow-on 24V-739 also include certain i7 models among a shared population for IB-module malfunction.
